Discussion02: Meeting 21st century Educational challenges with technology
With funding from the National Science Foundation, a group of computer scientists and educators examined technology's role in meeting the educational challenges of the 21st century. Their Roadmap for Educational Technology report identified seven grand challenges facing the field of education:
- Personalizing education
- Assessing student learning
- Supporting social learning
- Diminishing the boundaries between people and institutions
- Developing alternative modes of teaching
- Enhancing the role of teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders
- Addressing policy change
(Computing Community Consortium, 2010).
Think about how technology might address these grand challenges? In your initial post, select 1-2 of the grand challenges and explain how technology can address the challenge. For example, you might describe ways that technology can meet the needs of individual learners (challenge 1) or how it can provide teachers with immediate assessments of student learning (challenge 2). Be sure to include reasoning, examples, etc. to further explain your answer.
